Hello Everyone. New to the forum here. I'm planning a trip into Beef Basin the third week of September. Was wondering if anyone has been in there this year? I had heard that the loop around BB might no longer be passable and hoping maybe some local knowledge could help me out. Thanks for any help you can offer.

The Babylon fire burned a lot this year, around the area getting there. Access from the salt Creek road may be problematic. Burned across it from about Cathedral Butte, Long Point to the Trail Canyon TH. Best check with the USFS. Don't know if you can get up the road from Bobby's Hole.
The fire didnt reach Beef Basin so those roads should be OK. 4x4 would be my recommendation still.

Thank you. I was just looking at Babylon fire maps yesterday. Based on what I saw it didn't get as far north as Cathedral Butte. I'm hoping I can come in that way. The southern route, across Elk Ridge, looks like it got hit a lot harder. Don't plan to go as far as Bobby's Hole. Went down there about 30 years ago in my stock Wrangler and couldn't get back up. Had to go all the way out over Elephant Hill. Made it with no big problems, but don't care to do it again.
