Hello, I'm a travel nurse from Vermont looking for a November project. I'd like to spend a week or two backpacking; and I'd love to cover some distance. A friend suggested to Uinitas? I'm also interested in Arizona and NM. Some big loops would be ideal since I'll be alone. Thanks! I'm looking forward to exploring this site!

November is usually a bit late for the Uintas, but sometimes you can get lucky if the snow is late coming. The Colorado Plateau is still quite nice that time of year, aside from very short days.

@Jen is also a backpacking travel nurse (currently in Oregon but based in Utah) but she only pops in here every now and then.

Depending on which part of NM you head to, November can be just about perfect really. I'd say there is a good combination of trails to make some loops. If snow has not moved in too hard yet and you can deal with cooler weather, the areas of the Sangres (Pecos, Santa Fe and Carson NF, etc.) are great, though by then most of the aspen color will be gone. If you head south November, then the Gila wilderness could provide you with some good options. Just depends on what you are looking for.
