Was able to break away for the weekend and went backpacking to Dead Horse Lake. I have been going up there for about 4 years and this was the busiest I have ever seen it. Busy as in there was 3 other groups at the Lake. In the past we were lucky if we saw anyone else up there. Maybe I was just lucky all of the other times I have been up there, either or this spot is becoming more popular. Well we arrived Friday around 11, the weather was not to bad. We started hiking and then 30 min into the hike it started to rain. So we pretty much hiked the remaining 8 miles or so in the rain. This was the first real test (other then the shower) that I got to test out the silnylon jacket and rain skirt. They both proved there worth. It ended up raining all night long, but the good news was the lightning was off in the distance and not right on top of us. Saturday was the best day up there, sunny and blue skies. We hiked up Dead Horse Pass for some nice views, then we decided to pack up camp and fish mid way back thru Bucks Pasture. We ended up fishing about 5 miles of the river back down to where we sent up camp. I took a chance and did not set up the tarp as the skies looked real forgiving for the night. No rain but the temp dropped down to 27 that night. It pushed my 30 degree down bag to the limit, but with my jacket on and all my clothes it proved it could handle that temp. The fishing was awesome, I love fishing those small streams where a 12 inch fish is considered a trophy, it is always fun sneaking up on fish and hiding behind boulders and trees as not scatter the fish. Attached is a link to a video I put together of the little trip.
