I figured I'd walk for about two days in to a high rim, find precious little pothole water, wander for a day, and walk two easy days back. Routes were from my backcountry Ranger days with Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Escalante Subdistrict. Only problem was hitting limited routes through cracks and joints and side canyons without wasting too much time, water, and achilles tendon credits. Heavy winter pack and two gallons of water made for some tedious trudging. A good zero degree bag (North Face Nova) made lows in the teens comfortable, out on the rocks. A sturdy (but heavy) Dana Designs classic ArcFlex Terraplane (made in Bozeman, MT!) handled the load fine, as usual. Great trip, but the people were lacking, as in, there was no one but me :)

Awesome shots! Willing to share the general area this is in
Thanks Nick. They are only 5mpx on a point and shoot. Someday I'll learn to use the Lumix's features. This trip was along part of the west rim of the Escalante, between Neon and that reservoir (Powell). At my age, when solo , which is most of the time, I stick to relatively safe, mild-mannered "stuff", but usually in remote, off-track anonymous reaches.

Beautiful!!! Love to see the color in my white winter world.
Lot's of places to wander in that amazing area. Thanks for the pix.

My pleasure. I miss a good, cold, snowy, long winter though, since Kanab is in the Utah banana belt. Let's trade!

We're heading for that general vicinity for at least a week (Harris, Red Breaks, Coyote, Egypt) late April. Just kinda got me goin, seeing that pretty colored, warm looking landscape. Probably spend 4-5 days camping House Rock Valley Rd too, beginning of May.
A trade could be worked out. Probably not this winter though.
