Well, 2014 is over, so I'm done collecting stats on the causes of death in the backcountry. As some of you know, I did this in 2010, and I just wanted to do it again to see how the results compared to the previous results. Well, they pretty much came out the same: falling is still the number one way to die in the backcountry.

If you're interested in the details, I've summarized the data on my webpage. I also got bored in December and started putting together a new website. I'm still in the process of migrating all of my trip reports from my old site, so the site isn't done. If you think it sucks, don't tell me yet, because I don't think my ego can take the criticism just yet :)

But here's the page for the fatality statistics:

Remember the takeaway from the research: don't tempt gravity!

Yeah, I do...I've spent so much time trying to learn Wordpress and how to tweak the style sheet that it's been painful. But I'm at a place where I at least feel like it's better than the old site, so now I can buckle down and move over the hundreds of trip reports. It hasn't been as hard as I was afraid it would be to move the reports over, so that's good.

Did you get a page not found error on one of the pages?

Thanks. I don't know why it gave an error. I clicked on the same link and it worked fine...

And I just looked at Wordpress because you told me to a couple of years ago!

I think maybe there are some categories that don't have posts, yet, which made it look like pages not found. I think it may have also sent you to a draft post that I thought was disabled. I just deleted it, so I hope that fixed that problem. I'll get this all figured out!

Anyway, about those death stats!
