Greetings,

I am on the hunt for a 0° bag for winter camping here in Wisconsin. Now, I have camped many times here in moderate winter but then again, my sleeping bag was easily a 10-12lb monstrosity. I know many manufacturers make great bags for temps all the way down to -20.

The problem I face is that an extremely small fraction of those bags actually fit. I am 6', 285lbs with a shoulder girth of 68". Right now, my Big Agnes Gunn Creek 30° bag just barely fits. (70" shoulder) Now I know that they make longer and wider BA bags but those are expensive even being synthetic filled.

The question I have is this: Is it possible to find a 4lb and under 0° bag in my size without having to sell a limb? I fear I am on the loosing side of this battle along with my wallet.

Have you thought of adding a bag liner inside?? Sea to Summit Reactor Extreme Thermolite Liner or something like it you can use the same bag just put this in it. Not sure what sizes they make but an idea this would give you a 5 degree rating in you current 30 bag.

I just purchased a Kelty Coromell 0 bag and so far I like it....for the price.

I love my Western Mountaineering Sycamore 25 bag and would love to get the Sequoia 5 bag one day if I end up spending a lot more time cold weather camping.

I'm 6'5" 220 and both of these bags fit me great in the long size....lots of room.

I'm about your size, even a little bigger, and I've struggled with this a lot. I have a zero degree North Face Goliath that is suuuuper roomy but does push 5 pounds. I also have a 5 degree Marmot Snowcrest that isn't quite as roomy but is still roomy enough. I still haven't really pushed the Marmot yet, but I've taken the North Face probably all the way to zero and it's done the job.

Thanks for the suggestions guys... Even though most of them have been discontinued lol.

@ Nick, is the North Face Goliath bag mis-measured? Looks like it has a 66" shoulder unless the place where I read it had the wrong specs.

@ IntrepidXJ, I have a 25° Coromell and I like that bag. The only problem is that it is almost a 5lb bag at 25° and I don't know if I can justify $200+ for untreated down. I'd probably just pick up a long BA bag in that price range.

I thought $200 was a reasonable price for the bag....otherwise I'd be spending $600+ on a Western Mountaineering bag!
