    Polebridge to Kintla

There's quite a bit of traffic up there. You should be able to hitch a ride. Or try calling the Polebridge Mercantile when they open in April. They should have ideas. https://polebridgemerc.com/

I don't know of public transportation headed up the South Fork. Your best bet might be to try the Double Diamond X ranch. They're climber friendly and might be able to help or point you in the right direction. http://www.ddxranchwyoming.com/double-diamond-x-ranch

    Spot X

Definitely give the Mini a look. The Gen 1 was a pain, but the SE has been great for me. If I upgrade, it would be to the Mini. It's easy enough to pair to a smart phone for typing and I'm carrying that anyway for navigation. Also, I believe the Inreach uses Iridium satellites which seem to have...

M Fk will be exciting this time of the year! Enjoy the hot springs. It's been a rainy spring up this way.

Sunrise over Surprise Lake - Disappointment Peak and Grand Teton in the middle. The Spoon Couloir is the obvious snow gully in the middle.

    Early Season Tetons

We had a great few days in the Tetons. Perfect time of the year for snow travel. We hit patchy snow at 8,400’ near the junction of Garnet Canyon and Surprise Lake trail. Snow was continuous above 9,000’. We mostly stayed on top no problem. Camped at Surprise Lake on about 5’ of snow. The lakes...

    driving on wet clay

The Owyhees are like that too when it rains. I'd rather drive on ice. Chains help.

International Backpacking: Where to Store my Junk?

I haven't been to Norway, but in Patagonia we would stay at the same hostel at the start and end of each backpack and they had a place to store our extra things while we were on the trail. It seemed like a common request for them.

2017/2018 Snow Pack - or not

We just came back from Yellowstone's Northern Range. Lots of snow up that way this year. It looks like Boise will be close to 60 again next week.

You no longer need to purchase a parking pass. You do need to fill out a wilderness permit, but they're free and self issue.

    Yellowstone Shuttles

We were considering this as a ski last winter. Here is a list of transportation providers for the park. I'd start with Back Country Sports. https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/transbusn.htm

    Flathead River

It's been about 15 years since I floated that stretch. That was back before bear canisters were common. I don't recall doing anything special beyond leaving a clean camp. We didn't have any problems. The border launch didn't require anything special. It is strange to stand at the old crossing...

If you're comfortable with Class II+ and avoiding strainers, float from the border down to Blankenship bridge on the N Fk. It's a great 3 day trip.
