Always loved his black and white photography from his river trips, his photos of the mountains from his home, and his narrations on his reports. I'll never forget the little interaction I had on here where @Nick posted a photo of him, which I compared to Bob Balaban. Links if you'd like a...
Thanks for throwing in just a few photos that helped me get my bearings a little bit. Haha. This one looks fantastic.
I have found and packed out a mylar balloon with that exact same text on it, far off trail in SW YNP before. Unfortunate how frequently they turn up in places like this.
It's still my go-to for a lot of stuff when I need it faster than I can get it delivered. Consumables like gel chews for cycling, backpacking meals, and backpacking fuel mostly, and other stuff when I need it in a pinch. I'll buy an article of clothing or a pair of shoes there maybe once every...
I think about this from time to time. My number stays about the same every year haha.
Feel free to start the thread for 2025! We've only got 2 months to pump up those numbers for the year!
Hey I lived in Utah back then! Hahaha. I have always had a decent cold tolerance though...
You and @booksandhikes make a great point that cold tolerance is not universal and probably isn't something to mess with if you've got beginners not used to cold.
I did Syncline with a spur out to camp at the Green back in early March 2020. That comment you linked with the water sources looks about right. I don't believe there's much water in Taylor, but I have not been (for that reason). We got all our water from the Green, using aluminum sulfate to...
I've been there 3 or 4 times now and it seems to just be hit-or-miss depending on if there are day hikers. Probably quieter on weekdays and after peak season. We've never had the place to ourselves though.
Fantastic!! I have wondered about Buffalo Lake and the thermal areas on Boundary Creek and Silver Scarf lately. My friend and I have been talking about them since he read about them in a book. Very cool to see!
Interesting to see the v-notch weir on that stream. Was there a staff gauge/ruler...
I'm so curious about why they let us go there when they knew it was down, but now it's closed because it's down.
There were decent trees to hang from! But I guess they don't trust people to do a good job with that, which I understand haha.
That is awesome. I can only imagine how pleasant that walk must have been haha. The few stretches with minimal deadfall were so nice. It's such a pretty and remote place!
The mix of fallen logs and new growth is tough for sure.
Oh interesting. When did you notice the closure? The ranger didn't say anything to us about the pole being down. But after we noticed there was no pole, we checked the permit, which actually said there wasn't one. But the site wasn't closed I guess since they gave us the permit! Haha. It was...
