    Maybird Gulch - May 9, 2025

Awesome local overnighter! Never made it up Maybird when I was there. That fall in the creek would've really shaken me up. Glad you're alright!

A friend got permits for a trip where we'll stay at Joseph's Coat and attempt to see Fairyland Basin. Very interested to see how challenging that one is. And I think we'll be doing an overnight somewhere around the Black Canyon this weekend. No lottery luck required for either of those!

    Greetings

Born in Richmond and lived there until i was 9, then spent the rest of my childhood in Noblesville. Never spent much time in your neck of the woods. Went up there a few times for cross country meets, but that's about it!

That may be outdated because there are definitely some little log bridges across a shallower spot on that slough. Would not be pleasant to ford! @TractorDoc I've been curious about the Buffalo Lake entry. That will be some cool walking through that part. I don't think many people ever go that way.

We got our annual Bechler trip booked. Learned through experience that rec dot gov will prevent you from booking sites that are too far apart according to trail miles. We want to do one where we go off trail from Pitchstone to Gregg Fork, trying to follow an old disused trail, and it wouldn't...

In my opinion, 3P4 and 3P5 are the best ones up there. Going to be a great one!

My success rate is now 50%. Didn't get a date, and neither did my friend. Fortunately, Jessica at least got 4/17. She has a 100% success rate.

Definitely some Snake River tributaries out there too. Continental Divide and all.

I know it's gotta be southern Absarokas since it looks like it and we are the online fanclub for that area, but I haven't been there enough to know precisely where. North Buffalo Fork?

Great site selection for your tent there! Ha. And thanks for your comment. Love that area and don't see myself getting tired of it! Always hits just right that time of year.

    Bechler 5

Good timing then! I couldn't remember how long it was closed, so it must have just been a couple weeks. It was really nice having a more straightforward way to get there.

September 27 - October 1, 2024 Here it is, several months late. We did our annual fall trip to the SW corner of Yellowstone in 2024. This was the fifth year in a row (hence the uncreative title). We varied the route again, but most of it was a repeat of things we had done before. This time...

    Guess the spot: Maps Edition

Haha I have not, but my friend has. He said it was one of the hardest hikes he's done. Trail was in poor shape and impossible to find higher up the canyon. And I guess the way was not intuitive once they lost the trail. He showed me pictures of the lake though, and it is amazingly beautiful...

    The Power Pant .......

It's too bad because they used to be excellent. Lots of other solid brands out there at least.
