I volunteer quite a few hours each year to work on trails, clean up campsites, and generally try to improve the conditions (and minimize the impacts of visitors) in the wildernesses where I live. I am hopeful that this funding will help with those efforts.

I should update my previous post to say that last summer my daughter and I hiked the Camino Primitivo to Santiago de Compostela. This is the original route the King Alfonso hiked back in the 9th century or so, and is very different from the more popular Camino Frances. Our route had far fewer...

I don't even think it's a concern abou that. These same young people often go to Soul Cycle and sweat bullets. But the idea of spending their time outdoors, while they could be working at an internship that leads to a career in software, is a hard one to make.
