This whole topic reminds me of the Yogi Berra quote: "nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." I think a lot about the conundrum of backcountry "crowding". Personally, I hate waiting in lines, getting permits, dealing with people....but I understand that *someone* (many, many someones)...

I suspect Abbey would think they should blow up the roads and make people walk (crawl?) in if they want to see the park. I think it depends on your POV of the parks though...if you're a Moab businessman I imagine your preference would be different than a backpacker's would be. Forcing people...

Here's a phone pic I didn't post in my trip report. I was standing on the trunk of my (rental) car (shh, don't tell them) directly outside the pedestrian entrance to Zion.

The trip was last week. Night time temps were in the mid 40s in the main canyon, so I assume they were in the high 30s up where I was camping the 2nd night (almost 3000 feet above main canyon floor). Temps are already 15-20 degrees higher this week it looks like.

Nick - How long did it take you to get to campsite 12, if you recall? I am going in May and I could only get campsite 12 when I booked online (despite it being on a weekday and me booking within 10 minutes of the reservation system opening).
