The Gallatin River, Bighorn and Fawn Passes, Yellowstone National Park - September 7, 2023

Pretty sure I've had that guy do my permits in the backcountry office a few times as well. Is it the one from Arizona? He was much more chill this year than he was the year before haha. Very cool loop! I've looked into routes in the area but always kind of stop looking because of how the sites...

    Lollipop Loop in the Pintlers

September 7-9, 2023 I met up with some friends from Jackson and Spokane for a quick trip to the Pintlers in early September. We planned a lollipop loop on the SW end of the range with a small bit off trail. We met up on Friday night at the Pintler Campground. We snagged the last available spot...

Ensign Peak to Grandview Peak - October 9, 2023

Envious of the reds! We don't get much of that in the mountains up here.

    Isle Royale Kayaking August/Sept. 2023

This was really cool to see. I get seasick even on kayaks after a little while, so this whole thing would've been a no-go for me. You guys sure ate well! And it was interesting seeing that aspen forest with the ferns down below. What a cool place.

Ensign Peak to Grandview Peak - October 9, 2023

Fabulous foliage out there. That is a heck of a day, and really crappy that it was capped off with that stab o_O Insult to injury, having to go that much longer without eating anything after such a long hike!

Yellowstone's Thorofare and the Teton Wilderness 08/09/2023 - 08/18/2023 Part Three / Day Three

Fantastic! It's really interesting to see how overgrown/not heavily used that site (and probably several others in that area) is. All the sites I've ever stayed at are mostly bare hard packed dirt in the area all around the fire ring.

    Guess the spot: Utah Edition

Wish I knew it at a glance because I'd have come in with the legal description.

    Guess the spot: Utah Edition

As you'd suspect, we use it in the legal system so we have a precise way to refer to tracts of land, usually when they're being transferred. I've never met anyone who knew the legal description for their own real estate though. Haha.

Unreal scenery! What an awesome trip.

    DeLacy to Dogshead

Yep, we did a shuttle route. I guess the title of my post oversimplifies the route since the fastest way between DeLacy and Dogshead is the east side of the lake. Haha. I know a couple of my friends from Jackson have hiked over on the east side to fish before. Sounds like it's a fine trail, but...

    DeLacy to Dogshead

Yeah having no experience in the thru hiker culture/community, it came off as a little strange to me, but he was a nice guy and didn't bother us at all. Sometimes plans change!

    DeLacy to Dogshead

Agreed! I was talking about the weather and watching the clouds the entire time because the forecast had made things seems so dire, and my friends kept ribbing me about it haha.

    DeLacy to Dogshead

August 4-6, 2023 This was originally going to be a trip with a full crew of 8 people. Due to various circumstances, that group got whittled down to 3 by the time the trip rolled around. After finishing the route, I think it was for the best because some of the others were first time backpacker...

Yellowstone's Thorofare and the Teton Wilderness 08/09/2023 - 08/18/2023 -- Part Two / Day Two

Love it. Was just talking with friends on my last trip of doing a Thorofare trip next fall, and this is pushing me toward it. Enjoying seeing it day-by-day. Especially because that means more photos. Haha.

    Changes to BCP

I agree with the sentiment. Even though I just got back from a trip where cairns were actually pretty necessary for navigating a very little used "trail," it seems like 99% of cairns are not actually useful or warranted. We've got a healthy combination of mountain and desert backcountry love on...

government shutdown effects on national forests?

This is on my mind as I head out for a 4-nighter in Yellowstone tomorrow... My friend said in YNP they actually rounded up backpackers and had them hike out last time this happened. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen to us haha.

    Little Rock Creek

Could very well be, because he doesn't really like any tent. But the Tarptent on this one was just intolerable I guess. Haha.

    Little Rock Creek

Yeah the amount of stimuli definitely make it hard for some to calm down too! I figured because he's an Aussie he'd be smart and figure it out, but I guess he's just got too much anxious energy as a herding dog. Haha. I'll try him out in my other backpacking tent with a lot less mesh next time...

    Little Rock Creek

July 2-3, 2023 I've got a backlog of a few trips to work through, and here's the first one. This was the first backpacking trip I went on this summer. Was supposed to be for two nights, but ended up only being one for me due to dog issues. We usually do a trip around July 4 so we can avoid...

Hopefully that snow meant you didn't have to think as much about water availability! Haha. Looks amazing.
