How do you like living in the SLC area?

I understand that, but I'm sure glad that isn't the rule.

How do you like living in the SLC area?

I live right near Liberty Park, give me a message while you are in town. I can show you a few hikes that are real close by(with my dog- Off Leash), complain about some things, and show you some good local brews.

Island in the Sky: Cheatin and I Know It

I can't search it up right now, but look for access from climbers. Getting from the White Rim road down to those formations is very common amongst climbers.

    Desert Canyon/Water Shoes?

I find something quick drying much more favorable to waterproof in a canyon situation. La Sportiva Wildcat is my shoe of choice the past few seasons.

    Advice from Skiers

In the Salt Lake valley, a lot of shops rent AT gear. I know for sure the University of Utah rents it, Desert Rose (RIP) rented it while still open. I'm pretty sure Wasatch Touring rents it as well.

What to do around Juneau or Haines

I've spent a little time in Juneau before salmon/halibut fishing for a week. Don't get stuck in Juneau is all I can really say, tourist trap of all tourist traps.

    The Pacific Northwest

Lots of great stuff, and I agree: That area takes deceivingly long to drive through. When you go to Northern California, it's even worse, the roads are not straight and fast, but slow and windy. You went to Bremerton though, and I have to link to an old favorite of mine (from middle school) I...

    Advice from Skiers

You are diving into the deep end here. You DO NOT want to use cross country skis at a resort. They are too thin, and just don't work going down anything that is more than moderately downhill. I was about to type something out, but backcountry.com wrote something better than I can. Here Most...

Arch and Hoodos Destroyed on Video

so did our own @Christian. This is very odd. Like a video artist is trying to spark outrage like Banksy, but this isn't man made walls. There are things that were around way before we were. I don't get it.

Article: Crisis in our national parks

While times are changing in GSENM, I walked through Coyote Gulch in 94, and there was already a whole bunch of people down there. While a NP does bring more people, it generally concentrates them into a small area. Just like you said, walke a mile in and you generally have it to yourself.

Food Fight: Article in the New Yorker about the Hell's Backbone Grill in Boulder, UT

While I certainly disagree with this sentiment, in general. I'll bite, and even take it to the specific issue we are looking at. Utah vs. US gov't in managing public lands. I'll take any federal run land over any Utah State Park. When I go to some public lands, I don't want there to be...
