    Mid-October Backpacking

Tough time of year of you want solitude. I might try the Paria to Lee's Ferry. Probably through Wire Pass. Easy 10 mile days, most of the people will be in the Wire Pass/confluence area. Watch out for the Utah Highway Patrol there though. Cost me an extra $1000 last time I was in the area...

    Any mountain bikers out there?

I have been riding my MB more then anything lately. Been going up to Winter Park every other weekend or so and car camping and biking. pretty close to my house and the resort there is very nice but I am not at the skill level needed to ride most of it. Mostly just ride a bunch of single track...

Hikers behaving badly: Appalachian Trail partying raises ire

My guess is there is just more people on the trail in general. There is always going to be the element of people that like to have a little fun, this often gets compounded by meeting new friends and celebrating the situation. Any camp that has a large number of people in it is going to get rowdy...

Hikers behaving badly: Appalachian Trail partying raises ire

Interesting story about some of the problems they are seeing on the Appalachian with the surge in people. Sorry for the link, I hate to send anyone to that site but the story was too good...

    Backcountry Vehicles

Oh man that van is nice, my wife and I have been tossing the idea of a nice van around. I have a couple of years before my youngest is done with school and we can really get after it but we would like to spend a few years chasing the springtime in a van. I want a Syncro but they are getting...

    Backcountry Vehicles

The new Chevy Colorado is pretty sweet. I sat in a diesel one that had the optional rack system in the back at the Brickyard 400 and I was quite impressed. Not sure about buying anything Chevy but, this one is pretty nice. Might be favorite small truck.

    Animas River Disaster

Utah, Colorado, and the Navajo Nation are all weighing lawsuits against the EPA now. I wonder how much of the blame should rest on Silverton and Durango, they have been resisting the EPA cleanups because for the stigma a Superfund site would cause.

Don't Fret Utah Friends, The Animas River is Safe

Just ask our Governor here in Colorado. I am sure the fish would agree.

SLC to Morrison, CO: what should we go see?

Lots to do here in the Denver area, also lots of people. I usually do the drive from my parents Clearfield to Denver through Grand Junction, much better drive. I would recommend checking out Buffalo Bills grave there in Golden. Close to Red Rocks and pretty cool to see the plains head out...

    Animas River Disaster

Sad day for the folks in Durango and downstream from the mines. I am sure that the impact on the river will be felt for years and hopefully will drive the EPA to declare the mine are a Superfund site. I think that Silverton has resisted them doing that because of the potential impact to tourism...

Survivorman is coming to the Uintas

Poor Less has fallen quite far. I still like him, and I think he does some pretty good stuff. I would doubt that he is the guy who goes back to clean up his campsites so hopefully, some intern got there ass kicked after the Utah episode. On the subject of Bigfoot, I have had two encounters in...

    Primus EasyLight Lantern

I have been using it all summer, totally stoked on it. In fact, it has become part of my standard kit. It isn't near as bright as the Coleman lanterns, but it has always fit my needs so far. It comes with a smoked glass shade that really softens the light and makes it much easier on the eyes, no...

When to take a rain check?

Haven't canceled due to weather yet. I didn't care much when I was younger and living in Utah and now that I am in Colorado on the Front Range, it pretty much rains every afternoon to some degree. I was in Winter Park for the Bluegrass Festival a couple of weeks ago and it went from sunny, to...

Bg parcord knife VS camilus les stroud

I don't think you can discount their quality right away just because of the BG or LS tag, Les Shroud worked with a hatchet company and produced a pretty sweet bushcraft hatchet. I don't own one because they are pretty expensive but a friend has one and I have used/handled it and would love to...

    Colorado River 2006

Nice trip, I need to do more river trips. My middle daughter is 15 this year and we have been trying to figure out something epic to do with her. We figure maybe 3 more years max until she at least wants to take her boyfriend everywhere. Seems like yesterday I was checking her closet for monsters.
