Quick Road Trip Through Kanab - Any Must-see Locations?

Nice drive down to Lee's Ferry from 89 between Page and Kanab. You'll pass the parking lot for Wire Pass as well as the Wave. I would spend some time in Buckskin if I was in the area via Wire Pass. Wave permits are pretty much impossible. Also, There is a big California Condor reserve on the...

    Bears

Rereading my post, tame is not the right term. Socialized might be, unafraid for sure.

    Bears

We deal with Black bears here in Colorado pretty frequently, at least you do if you or your neighbors leave any trash outside. In my experience they run at the first sight of people and any noise gets them out of the area. Around Winter Park where I car camp on the weekends it is not uncommon to...

    Coyote Gulch trip May 20-23

Those ruins make for a nice spot to take a break. Most of my buddies have the centipede guy that's painted there tattoo'd on them somewhere. I finished all my whisky and passed out prior to the tattoo session lol. Both the lagoon and the ruins are in the same area, you'll see the trail off to...

    Bears

That makes sense as well. The blacks here in Colorado remind me of racoons; smart, curious, and up to no good. I have used the bell for years, not even sure where I got it but I suspect the guy who told me about it started the discussion with, " let me show you an old Indian trick." Edited to...

    Bears

I don't carry or even own firearms anymore so I would go with the bear spray. I carry it in Yellowstone and would in Alaska/Montana as well. Still the best deterrent I have found is a bell. I don't have any research to point to, but it makes sense to me that an animal is going to react badly...

    Art in the Parks

I was cruising through the comments section on KSL about this story. Pretty discouraging. I wonder how many people actually think about what they say or make an effort to think for themselves. Most that comment are perfectly fine with vandalism and destruction. Actual comment, "When Indians...

How many have relocated to be closer to outdoor activities?

I Just got told that my department is moving to Mexico in 18 mos. Nice of them to give me a heads up and plenty of time to find a new gig. Mexico is sure out and I have been itching to get off the Front Range of Colorado. Boulder is crazy expensive and I am more of small town dude. Funny, the...

    Roof Top Tents

I have been thinking about one for my Xterra as well. I like the ones that do not sit on the ground but I am unsure about losing my roof rack. From what it looks like to me, I'd have to pull my aftermarket off and I don't think I'd have enough space for all my stuff.

Bigfoot sightings in the Uintas Tales of the "unusual" in the woods

Skinwalkers are pretty great. So are Sasquatches.

Drilling the North Slope of the Uintas. What a terrible idea!

Heck ya, think of all of the new trail heads we could have. Now if only we could get rid of all the damn trees and wildlife we could really increase efficiency and output. Plus the increase in huge trucks and strung out rig hands means we can make our local economy 100% dependent on the oil...

    Coffee!!

I used the Jetboil press for a while but I got tired of cleaning it. I now prefer the coffee pods from the coffee station at work. I just drop two in my jet boil while it hot and off I go.

    Any mountain bikers out there?

For me, it's hardtail all day. I just got a new 29er and I am loving it. The only reason I would get the full ride is if I was doing hardcore downhill or my legs were getting fishy. Starting to feel like a hipster with a fixie lately though.

    Backcountry Vehicles

Saw this in Winter Park CO last weekend. Pretty sweet rig, even with the Utah plates.
