    Guess the spot: Maps Edition

Let's go with this. This place is kind of more historic than backcountry.

so Art, I'm pretty sure I'm correct on this one - do I go?

    Guess the spot

I'd say looks like the boulder jam in the middle of Buckskin Gulch.

    Guess the spot: Maps Edition

That is the airport near halls crossing - close to the start of the southeast side of the hole in the rock trail.

    Labyrinth for the first time!

On Firewood, I meant drift wood, not just dead wood. There might not be any in camps, but if you keep your eyes open, you should find a plentiful supply along the way.

    Labyrinth for the first time!

You can have fires in a firepan, you just need to carry out the ash. There should be plenty of dead wood available.

    Tent footprints

I've got some of the kite tyvek, but haven't cut a footprint out yet. I'll let you know what I find

    Labyrinth for the first time!

I would say the gear largely depends on the type of craft you are taking - are you going by raft, canoe, or kayak? I'm assuming you are familiar with the regulations. You will need a groover of some style, a fire pan, extra paddles. On the groover, you can buy, rent, or make one. Last time...

    Advice for hiking with kids

Just have fun! The bathroom thing won't be a big deal to them if you don't make it into a big deal. Don't get set on some specific destination. Steve's idea of starting out small is smart. If that is half a mile, then so be it. They really will appreciate enjoying the journey and your...

    Gear Review Thermarest NeoAir XLite

The xtherm stuff sack extends to twice it's normal size and becomes an inflator bag, so I only use breath to put the last little bit of pressure in. Isn't the xlite that way also?

    Camera Batteries- internal or replaceable?

^^ This. I love AA batteries for some things, but not camera. Gotta have lithium, but I don't like cameras with built in batteries either. I prefer a camera with a small lithium square battery. You can usually find popular ones from generic battery makers so I can carry a couple extra...

My experience is you drive up to the pass for any cell reception.

    New Backpack

I've done it in Paria and buckskin. Restops are great as long as you are careful and seal them up good.

    Wanted: Ice Axe and Crampons

You didn't state what kind of crampons you are looking for. I have a pair of BD Sabretooths I would sell for $90. They are semi-auto 12 point crampons - in good shape. I'm fairly sure they will fit 12s with the current bars. The only spare axes I have are technical.

    What's on your feet?

I picked up a pair of Innov8 Rockites PIF off BPL recently. They are extremely light and have great grip. The jury is still out on comfort. I currently backpack in a fairly hefty set of lowa boots. As my kit lightens up, I'm hoping to get much lighter.

    UTAH: Highline Trail

Not sure what kind of recreation you are interested in, but there are a ton of great day hikes within half an hour of SLC. I've got lots of things going on in late July, but if I'm available, I'd be game to show you a few!

    What's on your feet?

I forgot that I also have some Salomon XA 3D Ultras besides the TechAmphibians. I don't like the fit of the XA 3D as well and I haven't worn them much. I have pretty narrow feet, and I'm not convinced the quicklace system works well enough for hiking shoes. Moral of the story is every shoe...

    What's on your feet?

I have some salomon techamphibians and love them. Not your average trail shoe, but excellent for getting wet yet having a decent stiff sole.
