    Geo-tagging your photographs

Wow, I often can't do that when I get back from walking the dog, so many places look the same. My current project is mapping the Sand Creek Drainage just out of Torrey, I often take 70-100 pictures as I walk up a side creek. And on the tours I do of Cathedral Valley it's often hard to find the...

    Geo-tagging your photographs

I geo-tag almost all my pictures, I have an AMOD 3080 GPS tracker, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L8SE5M/?tag=backcountrypo-20 (mine's not rechargeable) It's very light and produces tracks that can be changed into Google Earth KML files using GPSBabel (free). The software that comes with it is a...

    New backcountrypost shirts: pre-order now!

Get Bill to take a picture of his new and old ones next to each other, or overlaying each other, assuming they are the same size of course.

    New backcountrypost shirts: pre-order now!

Do these ones run true to size? I normally wear XL but on your advice ordered 2XL in the first shirt and it fits great.

Easy 14'er day hike near Salida, Colorado?

I'm reading it now, looks like lots of opportunities but haven't found a map of the wilderness boundary yet, I'm sure it's out there. So perhaps I could widen the question, what are the most interesting day hikes in the Salida area? (The 14ers are exposed and barren, probably going to have to...

Easy 14'er day hike near Salida, Colorado?

Thanks. A bit more research has revealed the presence of a wilderness area where dogs must be on a leash, if there are routes to minimize this Biff would be happy. Looks like Yale might be a possibility with only a section in the wilderness.

Easy 14'er day hike near Salida, Colorado?

I'm going to be in Salida next week and have never been to the top of a 14K peak by foot (16K+ in the Andes on a motorcycle, but it did the work, though not without complaining!). Are there any peaks that I can drive a fair way up in my Tundra and finish off the last 5-10 miles round trip? I...

    Utah Fire Restrictions 2012

Here are my pictures from the Lost Lakes Fire which is less than 10 miles from my house. It's so dry on the mountain that the cattlemen are already feeding hay to the cattle up there. Lost Lakes Fire

    Total eclipse of the Sun

That's exactly what I used (exactly!) except that I had an assistant holding the filter (and moving it away to take a look himself) (And I didn't notice a reflection of an alien in mine)

    Total eclipse of the Sun

I took me a while to figure out how to get the best pictures, in the end a 50c mylar 'eclipse viewer' held over the end of the lens got the best shots Annular Eclipse - Peak by Bob Palin, on Flickr Annular Eclipse - After Peak by Bob Palin, on Flickr

    Dropping your tires PSI

Why does airing down would reduce flats? I would think the opposite might be true. Don't think even aired down tyres are flexible enough to deform round something that would give you a flat and hard tyres tend to bounce over them. Suppose it depends how soft the rubber is. My experience on...

    Backcountrypost Shirts

People complain a lot about the USPS but they are generally pretty good, everything gets here in 1 day, and even from SLC we are probably more remote than NY is! Shirt looks great, will need more stickers at some point (5 motorcycles, truck, car, trailer and dog)

    Hiking with dogs - boots?

As a motorcyclist I can't believe I've been hiking without a roll of duct tape - must rectify today!

    Hiking with dogs - boots?

Given Nick's problems with his dogs' feet on hikes and the fact that my little devil Biff got a cut on his foot out walking last night I wondered if people had any thoughts or hints about buying and getting your dog to wear boots. Biff doesn't much like his feet being touched and resists...

    Chimney Canyon

Great report and pictures, have to get down that way again soon. Pointless aside (I'm good at them): I got my dog Biff from Chip Ward who rescued him when he was abandoned in Torrey. I'll forward the URL of this trip report to him (Chip, not Biff)

Wide Angle Lens Recommendation for Canon t2i

They just returned mine with no explanation other than "cannot be fixed", didn't charge anything including postage. Other than the water mine wasn't physically damaged in any way.
