Spotted: Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac

No, not at all, maybe my reaction is due to something else.

Spotted: Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac

Many people don't get a reaction the first time they get heavily exposed, but the second time it starts and it just gets worse from there. I learned an interesting, if obscure, thing this week: I used to get into poison oak quite a bit white water rafting and at about the same time became...

    Album Wildflowers

It's been an exceptional year for flowers in the Capitol Reef area, now the show is moving upstairs to the mountains. Windy Ridge View, 12th June 2014 by Bob Palin, on Flickr Fields of Flowers near Windy Ridge (1) by Bob Palin, on Flickr

    Poll: New BCP Shirt Design

I'm very happy with my VistaPrint door magnets, vinyl banner and business cards, but all the clothing seems to be poor (I have hats, polos, t-shirts).

    Poll: New BCP Shirt Design

Looks like places that do polos charge a lot more for them, I had a couple made at VistaPrint but the shirt quality was poor.

    Poll: New BCP Shirt Design

Only interested in a polo also, have a bazillion t-shirts and like the sun and camera strap protection that a polo provides.

Northern Idaho day hikes and camping spots?

I'm headed north for a couple of weeks soon and have no set plans other than a few days with friends in Moscow, Idaho. I'm looking for day hikes of 4-10 miles from Moscow north and also nice places to 4WD truck camp. Camp places within walking distance of hikes are particularly desirable. Hikes...

    Bag Night Challenge 2014

Phew, I'm about to spend 14 nights truck camping, in a bag!

    Nine Days in Capitol Reef

Asking someone what camera they used to get such great pictures is like asking a chef what stove they used to make such a great dinner. While there are technical advantages to the higher end cameras they are often in marginal or specialized situations. You can take amazing pictures in many...

    Nine Days in Capitol Reef

Butch Cassidy was certainly in the area but nobody really knows for sure exactly where he went and hid out. He was born and grew up near Capitol Reef (Beaver) in an immigrant English Mormon family. It was recently discovered that some of his relatives are buried in the Fremont cemetery and there...

    Cathedral Valley primitive camping

Just don't camp somewhere next to the Temples where you will be in the sightline of sunrise photographers. If I leave Torrey at 4:15am, as I will tomorrow, and find people camped in my views I'm likely to be quite grumpy!

Had some friends go over this weekend - the mountain is open!

    Cathedral Valley primitive camping

No problem, I did the loop Tue & Wed, on Tuesday we couldn't get over the Bentonite Hills but they had dried by Wednesday. The road over from Cathedral Valley to UT72 is not open yet but the loop is fine. The flowers are amazing.

CRNP: Temple of the Sun Evening/Night/Morning

'Subtle' is certainly the word, I've been there many many times (the last two days for instance) but I've never seen it look so grey even in the middle of the day, strange lighting indeed.

I like this forecast better, most 'Torrey' forecasts are actually for Bryce. Unfortunately conditions for this page are in Hanksville, which of course is completely different. Weather underground has good current conditions for Torrey as there is a weather station at somebody's house, they place...

I've been there many times at sunset and sunrise, guess I need to spend the night!

    Cathedral Valley primitive camping

There's no set date, they let the road dry out. It should be anytime now except that they got a bunch of snow yesterday judging by the Hogan Pass camera. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2

    Cathedral Valley primitive camping

There have been a couple of people at the Cathedral Valley campground over the last few times I've been there (4 times this year). Most of the time there is nobody there though. It doesn't really have many advantages over camping outside the park a little further up the road other than the...
