    Tripod Talk

I have a couple carbon fiber Feisols. A very lightweight one that I often carry on day hikes, a 3441T and a very heavy duty one that I sometimes use my long lens on a 3472. I'd buy either one again. I don't envision needing another tripod, but, if I do, I'll definitely look at Feisol again...

    Backcountry Vehicles

Yeah, I see it too. The image thing. Loving the KO2's on my 100 Series LC. Not that much different than a Runner and can't imagine they wouldn't be excellent on a Runner. Don't know what the issue was Alderon, but I'm confident that it wasn't actually the KO2's. The symptoms you mention do...

    Backcountry Vehicles

You only get offroad cred for damage if it A) Happens on purpose while achieving a goal - "getting where you need to go" and B) you show that you clearly don't give a crap afterward. Do it on accident (unless while attempting an obviously high risk factor obstacle) or show that you care, no...

Mountain Biking Trails In Mountain West

Can't add any value to Dennis' comments. I've driven the whole thing a few times, but never even looked at it with any thought to mtn biking. Agree with early Sep. as a good time to do it though, re: mud. - DAA

    Backcountry Vehicles

I was $950 out the door with road hazard certs on 4 265/75-16 KO2's at Discount. Regarding 20" wheels, offload... Yeah, they suck. It's what my Ram came with. The issue is lack of sidewall. Makes for a rougher, less compliant ride, necessitates running full street pressure and if you push...

    Backcountry Vehicles

The diesel Titan has supposed to have become available a few different times already and keeps getting delayed. It was announced as a '15 model, but now is slated as a '16. Never a good sign. And yes, it's a Cummins, but it's a brand new one with no track record. The Titan has never been on...

    Toughest Hike or Backpacking Day

Keep a positive mental attitude. The whole thing was about that. In my cold analytical heart, I KNEW I was going to be fine. I knew exactly where I was. Knew exactly where I was going. Knew almost exactly how long it was going to take me (I was only off by an hour). But I also KNEW it was...

    Toughest Hike or Backpacking Day

My Son (unbeknownst to me ) read my earlier post and a couple minutes ago asked me " what about that time. .." And he's right. The physically and mentally toughest hike was not the time I had to walk two days described earlier. It was the time my back went out down in the Maze. Camped at the...

    Toughest Hike or Backpacking Day

Got my truck stuck in the mud once on a "day trip". Short story made shorter - two days and two nights, 34 miles, open desert, late winter, no shelter, no food, eating dirty snow for water (made me puke....). Never felt in any danger or anything, aside from hunger, thirst and cold, didn't...

Hiker Killed by Grizzly Bear in Yellowstone

I agree with that, 100%. Except for the no known history of human aggression part. What kind of history of human aggression do you need? She just killed and ate some poor fawker. She's a man eater. Sounds like a pretty serious history of human aggression, to me. They say... Humans are...

I didn't record the location, but looking at a map, I believe it's in the cliff area due north of Fall lakes. - DAA

    Looking for a new pack

If I were doing that trip again, I'd probably use my Osprey. I'd be carrying enough food and fuel etc., along with fishing gear, and I always carry camp shoes in the Uintas, that my starting weight would justify the "heavy hauler". That big Osprey really is a very, very comfortable pack. My...

Wendover to St. George (on dirt...)

Art, that would have been going up Horse canyon in the Snake Range. It was an up and back side trip. Road got very rough, one spot where it had recently washed out was just a teensy bit iffy for the lifted Rubicon on 35's - anything with lesser approach/departure angles and bumpers not made...

Wendover to St. George (on dirt...)

I'm not sure I understand the question? But I always have a GPS on board and usually look at a map before leaving. For this trip I did plan the route out on the map before leaving. But I never bother creating GPS routes or any of that junk. - DAA

    BCP Calendar

I've done calendars for a few years now. The way I avoid getting caught with extras is to start selling them before the Holidays and order them in multiple smaller batches, the first couple batches are all sold before I even get them, so that a week or two before Christmas, I only have a couple...
