    Zebra Canyon 2-2013

We tossed around a handful of ideas for our first desert trip of 2013 and the plan changed a few times but eventually we settled on a car camping trip to Escalante. We left Saturday morning and were hiking down Half Way Hollow towards Harris wash by 2pm. Not long after we started we ran into two...

Big West Fork of Red Breaks to The Cosmic Navel

It was a surprisingly "warm" February night in Escalante and aside from the wind rattling the tent I slept very well. I woke up before my alarm went off and noticed that the sunrise had already started to light up the clouds. I ran to the truck, grabbed my camera fired off a few shots, and then...

    A Night On The Reef

Sorry to hear about your knee and I hope you recover soon. I've hiked to top of the reef a few times and I'm always amazed at the amount of washes, canyons, and flats that never seem to end until you finally reach top.

Utah Lake- The Break up 2013

The ice on Utah Lake is starting to melt, crack, and move a bit so the next time the wind starts to blow things may start stacking up. If you haven't been down to Utah Lake in the winter before once the ice starts to break up its by far the best time to shoot. Every night there seems to be a...

    Trails for kids

All of the backpacking with kids I've done in the Uintas has been in around the Trial Lake area and that puts you about 2 hours (and a few months) away. If you were hitting the trail at the Crystal Lake trail head by 6:30 you could make it to either Cliff Lake, Wall lake, Long Lake, Watson...

    Trails for kids

When you say "over nighter's" are you talking about car camping or backpacking? Also, knowing where you live will help with the time constraints you mentioned.

    Album Photo Processing Comparisons

Not an amazing image but a good example of the power of tone curves and the dynamic range contained within a RAW file from the 5DMKIII SOOC (raw to jpg) WB adjustments, basics curves, a light grad filter in LR4 3 luminosity masks in cs5 and back to LR4 for sharpening and a few other touches...

    What's on your feet?

My 11 month old pair of campfours have done pretty well, no holes and the stitching is all intact. I think the stealth rubber wears quickly due to its softness so I think I will limit my use on my new pair to trail/slick rock only. The one problem I did have (others have reported this as well)...

    What's on your feet?

I should mention I really like both pairs of Vasque boots that I've owned just not their hiking shoes and trail runners. I've had 3 pairs or runners and they've all lost 99% of their support within a few months had have become flip flops with laces. Actually they make a women's campfour. :)...

    What's on your feet?

My second pair of 5.10 CampFour's arrived yesterday. Loved my first pair and I'm stoked for the second. As far as trail runners go I've had and really liked a few pairs on Montrails. I've had nothing but bad experiences with both pairs of Vasques that I've owned. They always end up being...
