Album The dogs of backcountrypost.com

It's been a sad week around here. We had to say goodbye to our beloved Nikita on Saturday. It was 13 years ago this month when I adopted her from 4 Paws Rescue in Logan. She was already close to 2 years old and had been there for over a year. They were hesitant to adopt her to me because she was such a wild dog and not particularly fond of men. They told me to take it slow and maybe she'd let me pet her after some time. Well I took her home and it didn't take long for her to decide that I was her human. And the rest is history. We're so grateful to have had her in our lives for so long. I miss her so damn much already.

I've put together a huge photo album of her over our time together, including a few of her original adoption photos which are the closest thing to seeing the puppy version of her I'll ever see. You can scroll through them here if you'd like: https://goo.gl/photos/PmqXgadfPYoiAQHJ6. Here are a few of them...

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I don't know why it has to hurt so much to loose our furry best friends but it does. Memories are the key I think.

We miss you old hound. A desert rat if there ever was one.....

So many great photos, @Nick. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

My dayhiking buddy Milo. 99% people friendly, 100% hater of all other dogs. He lives for 'go hiking?!' and 'truck ride?!' and carries his own water and supplies without complaint.

... and yes I forgot to clone out the bag of his poop in the shot, lol.

If there's dogs, there's poo. What pack is that?

I have one of such temperament too: love's people. Other dogs? No.

Never fails either. Within the first mile he unloads so I (or he) has to carry it for a few more...

I'll check on that pack tomorrow morning, but it was nothing special from Pet Smart or some such store.

"Good2Go Pack Leader". Looks like you can still find them on eBay, but there's nothing super about it really. The dog would disagree as he thinks it's the best thing ever...

He's a beaut! And cool time. Milo. Any history with it?

Well he spent his first day with us under a different name entirely, until we realized we'd named him the same as our neighbor's kid and that might be awkward... ;) Other than that, no good story behind the name that I can remember.

I will say that as feisty as he is now at 7 years, he's a pale shadow of his younger self. His nickname the first couple years was Osama Bin Milo. Quite the little terrorist...
