Hey everyone, I am sorry to say I am noobie.. I am completely new to backpacking, although I am not new to camping. I have been canoe camping with my father for as long as I can remember. I recently bought a north face banchee 65 after watching YouTube videos on backpacking and falling in love with it. I have been cheaping out and been using my fathers stuff for the past 15 years and over the past few months sucked up and been buying my own gear. I have to say it been very expensive. I found this site hopping to learn a bit of knowledge on backpacking.

Welcome...You have come to the right place. There are a ton of friendly folks here with a ton of experience.

Welcome. What part of the states do you live in? Backpacking can be expensive, but after you get your main 4 things (tent, pack, pad, bag), it shouldn't be very expensive. We love to talk gear and make recommendations, so post up any questions you may have.

Welcome, Canoe trips are what I started with 25 years ago. Any Good old trip reports and photo's? Are welcome here!
I discovered backpacking about 7 years ago but it became my primary passion, hobby, addiction about 2 years ago. So I too have been revamping all my gear recently. It can be a little overwhelming at times and expensive. But fun as hell! And One Piece at a Time.

Welcome aboard. Backpacking is a little unique in that you don't have to have the latest and greatest to really enjoy it. Sure, it can make a difference but as you know older gear can still work.

I actually do not live in the states, I live up in Canada. The reason for it being so expensive is due to canoe camping you don't need to worry to much about weight or bulk as much as you do when backpacking. Most of my gear was either extremely heavy or bulky, I didn't realize how much my bulk or weight my gear was until I started stuffing it into my pack lol!
