Bag Night Challenge 2017

@Tipi Walter
Only 164???? LOL

Hey, Art, my count will be 365 at the end of the year. Does it matter that it was mostly indoors (I always sleep in my bag)? :sleepy2:
Well, Skipper, I have a liberal definition since I started counting "nights under the stars" 15 years ago and then morphed it to "bag nights" once I became a backcountrypost devotee. To me, it is an attitude thing. If you are out in the wilderness or edge or even the country sleeping with aspirations of enjoying nature I am good with it.

However, in your bed? Really? That is pushing it a bit far for even my liberal definition. But I am not the Decider. What does the community think? And why-oh-why are you sleeping in your expensive sleeping bag while in your bed? :moses:

My window looks out on wilderness. :)

I just like being all comfy and squished up in down. I haven't slept in a bed for many years, just on one. But I soon won't even be using a bed, once I figure how to get out of my hammock. :help:

But I admit that it doesn't feel the same as camping, so I hereby retract my offer to win the contest. :p

If skippers counts I get 365 as well.... Can't get a house much closer to wilds .... Pines everywibdow you look out. Grizzes on my driveway, deer and elk around ....Aspen trees.... 1)4 mile from WAs,. 7 miles from Yellowstone....

May need to go to appeals court... Hehe

OK, me and Bob win. What's the prize? A night out in the woods?

Actually, he may be a bit ahead because of the grizz, all I have in my backyard are blackies and raccoons.

Rockskipper---I can't bring myself to count all my nights sleeping in the backyard using a Thermarest and one of my winter bags. I guess my count would be about 350 days all told etc but I guess it's more fair to count just backpacking bag nights, or at least that's all I want to count.
Tipi, where IS your backyard where you keep an actual address ?

I'm a bit late updating, but I'll finish 2017 with 15 nights total for the year. That's a bit higher than average for me, but not nearly as high as I'd like it to be.

-2 nights (4/1 & 4/2) Seminole Canyon State Park, TX
-1 night (4/8) Pace Bend County Park, TX
-2 nights (6/16-17) Mustang Island State Park, TX <-- camping on the beach sounds like fun, but with a stiff sea-breeze blowing sand everywhere, it was miserable.
-8 nights (9/7-9/15) Glacier National Park, MT
-2 nights (10/20-22) Hill Country State Natural Area, TX

limestone hills in Hill County SNA, proof that Texas isn't completely flat (just mostly)!

A few more nights in to finish up the year. I'm pretty damn proud of that number considering I was stuck at home writing trail guides for much of the spring and then taking the best 3 months of the year off to do house remodeling. My last bag night of the year was an incredible 5-star spot with an amazing view.

Now as for myself this past year in 2017, it was about 150 days or so do think. For the exact number will have to consult and look at my journals which I keep every year of my travels. But it was more then 5 months with from around Mid June to late November.

About ... 150 Days do think.

Mid June to August 8th .... In Alaska camping, hiking, and wandering around.
August 8th to August 19th ... In Coastal Washington and Oregon camping, birdwatching, and wandering about.
August 20th to Late September ... back in Jackson Hole, Wy. - lost my housing so had to camp out. Came back for the Eclipse and stayed till
- the fall colors.
Late September till Late November ... In Zion NP hiking and camping, Southern Utah, and Northern Arizona with camping, hiking and
- wandering about.

January to Mid June ... In Jackson, had housing and working, but constantly getting out during the day hiking and birdwatching.
Late November to December ... Back in Jackson with housing and working.

But now am 61, one of these days when get Social Security sometime soon, plan to just vanish in the woods year round.

Now will have to correct my nights here for 2017 after looking in my journals and thinking of my whole summer and fall adventures. Seems like it came down to 130 nights plus. The reason is that I did have my housing in Jackson for like a week after I returned in late August before I had to move out. Also at the end of my adventuring in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, I stayed with some friends near St. George for a bit.

So because of this ... for 2017 it was like 130 days plus or so. Just correcting myself and everything.

Wishing Everyone the Best!

OK Kmat, that number will put you in the top tier when I compile the results. Impressive! Tradition demands, though, that you post at least a few pics of your camp spots :) Perhaps you did way earlier in the thread but I went back a few pages and missed them. Perhaps you have a few? Thanks.
