Now entering the ring... (sleeping pads)

I would say it is a combination of the lack of grooves from the quilted design and the material. The pad is 3.5" thick, but they made the sides beams 4" so that helps a little bit. I think that it also helps if you under inflate it as well, that way you sink into the pad and it holds you in...

Now entering the ring... (sleeping pads)

Yeah, I could see that if you use a regular sleeping bag. I either use a big agnes sleep system bag or a quilt, which really helps you to stay on the pad (with the quilt there is no nylon under you to make you slide everywhere).

Now entering the ring... (sleeping pads)

I started using the Big Agnes Q-Core SL last year and I absolutely love it! I sleep with a quilt and the insulation that the pad provides is more than enough to keep me warm on my backside. Also, the "quilted" design is MUCH more comfortable than a beam design IMO, and the weight is pretty low...

What Animal Worries You Most in the Utah Backcountry?

Really crappy picture (taken with an old iPhone), but I came across a moose and her young last year when heading up to abes lake in the uintas. I saw the same moose on the trip there and back, and she didn't seem bothered at all (I have a very moronic brother that has no boundaries with...

What Animal Worries You Most in the Utah Backcountry?

Just curious as to what other people think about wild-life in the back country. To be honest, the thought of a mountain lion stalking me is by far what scares me most. I go trail running quite often with my dog beau, and I think that I have just read way too many stories about lone hikers and...

    Uintas Conditions 2013

On the KSL website it is showing that the Uintas are are 142% snow pack for this time of year, which on their maps would represent the dead horse lake area (http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=134181&nid=149). For the southern region it is at 103% of normal. There is also a web cam at Moon Lake...

Uintas: Highline TH to West Fork Black's Fork

I did the trudge to Abes lake last August. Unfortunately, I chose to carry a little bit too heavy of a pack, which made the steep climb a near death sentence. However, it made me go pretty slow so that may be why I didn't get the altitude sickness haha. The fishing was pretty good though. So I...

    Noobs: Introduce Yourself!

Hello everyone! I actually signed up for an account a couple of months ago, but never really took the time to post something here. I have been backpacking for a few years now, with many of my trips (mainly in the Uintas) being planned due to Nicks great photography, so thank you! I am...
