    Uintas Backpacking (or Montana)

You could check out Moon Lake Resort which sets at 8,300ft. Acclimate there for a couple of days and then hike north from Moon Lake making a 50 mile loop that takes you over Red Knob Pass over to Deadhorse lake and Deadhorse pass and then back down to Moon Lake. There are multiple trails...

Dromedary, Platypus, or Big Soda Bottle?

I have the platypus gravity filter bag. I have learned to always test your filters flow before you head out on a backpacking trip. I used mine, brand new, on a five day hike back in 2013 and after the trip I put it away and didn't use it for two years. I didn't think to test it out after...

Sawtooths - Vernon, Ardeth, and Spangle Lakes

Nice trip report! I'm planning the Sawtooths in 09/17. I've used www.Skycallsatellite.com twice when I've flown in from K.C. Mo. and hiked in the Uintas.

Uinta Highline Trail: Food and Bears.

I've hiked from Leidy pk over to Porcupine pass and then south out of the Uintas and then from Moon lake resort up to Rednob over to Deadhorse pass and then south down towards Squaw basin and back to Moon lake resort and have never seen any sign of bear scat or tracks.

    With or without moonlight?

Well, not living near any mountains means that a backpacking trip gets planned out way ahead of time. Where I work, we do our vacation picks in November and we're picking for the next year. I'm planning a week long hike in the Sawtooths in September of 2017 and I couldn't decide if I wanted the...

    With or without moonlight?

I'm curious how many hikers/backpackers while planning a multi-day trip, plan your hike with the lunar cycle? Some may want a full moon so that with a clear sky their surroundings are completely lit up whereas others may choose no or very little moon so that they can see more stars. Thoughts ...

Shuttle Needed from Vernal UT to Leidy Peak - August 6th

Hello Utahins! Is there anyone that might be able to help this guy out with a ride from Vernal to Leidy peak in August. I had the same problem in August 2015 so I ended up hiking a loop and couldn't finish the Highline Trail . Finding a shuttle is and can be the most difficult part of planning a...

5 nights, 50 miles in the Uintas

DAA, can you please tell me where shower springs is located in regard to the lakes in the area. I will be hiking a big loop from Moonlake resort in August and I definitely don't want to miss that cold fresh water before going over Deadhorse Pass. Thanks, Shawn P.

Uintas Highline Trail Solo Thru Hike - Getting to/from trailheads logistics

In regard to acclimating, take a look at moonlakeresort.com . It sets at 8000 ft . You can hike a big loop from there and go over Rocky Sea pass, Deadhorse , Red Knob and even over to Porcupine pass. Acclimating is very important. I live at 900 ft and I flew out and attempted the Highline back...

    Looking for a new pack

Look at bizrate.com. The Osprey Aether 85 is down to $ 223.00 at REI-outlet. It will be a 2012 model. I bought a 2011 model from o2gearshop.com last year for $ 228.00. The 2011 and 2012 models are the same thing. Very nice/big pack with a great hip belt. It will weigh around 5 lbs but other...

Smith & Morehouse Ledgefork Trail - Uintas

Snow melt running down the trail, snow building up on the tent and a challenging river crossing in order to get out and get back home. That sure beats setting at home on the couch. It looks like you had a memorable time and probably learned some things while having to deal with the elements...

    Post hike--BURGER & FRIES

I have mentioned in a couple of threads that I will be hiking the Highline Trail in August. If I survive, that is if I'm not mauled by a bear, jumped by a cougar, trampled by a moose, struck by lightning, or carried off by a swarm of mosquitoes. Where would be the best place in the Salt Lake...

    Misery

Okay thanks. Having just spent some bucks last week on my sons first semester of college and $3200.00 on an asphalt driveway yesterday, I'm looking for something decent in the range of -CHEAP-. I'm thinking about the Nikon 3100 or a Canon rebel in the same price range. I prefer new over used. I...

    Misery

Sweet pics Nick ! The only thing missing from this TR is a guy with a pink tank top. Now you better take care of that knee:moses: so you can get up in the Uintas and point me in the right direction in August.
