West Canyon on Lake Powell. Zero cell service, and usually peaceful if I can stay away from the house boaters. Camped here for a couple days and loved every quiet second of it.

This boils down to simple arrogance. These are apparently “experienced” hikers who have the mentality that it can’t happen to them, and the park rangers are not savvy outdoors people. This happens after people have hiked and never encountered an emergency situation over a period of time. I see...
2013 Jeep Wrangler. Been out to trails in Sedona, North Carolina and Florida. So far it's been dependable and have it set up for road travel as well as off road. Get 19 mpg's on the highway on the 33's.
It's hard to find anything "remote" in Sedona. The closest you can get is hiking all the way to the end of the West Fork of Oak Creek. The typical tourist can't or won't put it the effort. But the rest of Sedona is pretty tourist oriented for sure.

I'm a little delayed in posting this, and this is not some "hardcore" off-road adventure, but back in early August I took a quick trip out west to Sedona and Lake Powell, and hit Schnebly Hill Road one evening for some pictures and some fun on the rocks with my kids.
Schnebly Hill starts off...
The pullpal is invaluable in a situation like this. Doesn't seem like there was anything solid to tie the winch off to. Worst case scenario, if you have a shovel with you, bury it as deep as you can or use the shovel and bury a spare tire as an anchor. Takes a while, but if you're out in the...
I love reading your trip reports and really love the amazing pictures. It's been a few years since I have been on Powell, but I am shooting for a trip in '16. These pics give me inspiration! I was wondering what kind of lens you are using on the camera; the pictures are absolutely amazing!!
Yes, but it's a monstrous one for three people. It's definitely stable, and I have used it out in the Gulf near a lot of boat traffic before, and it handles like a champ.

Dude, awesome! Thanks for your input, because that's the kind of info I really need. Since I'm so far off in my time frame, I really wanted to hear from someone who has experience on the lake. I've only been out there on a jet ski and houseboat. I'm with you on the chair; no back, not a chair...
I am planning on taking on a multi-day (3-4) paddle on Lake Powell sometime in 2016. I have settled on the month of May. I have a large 3 person sit-on-top with a lot of storage and a smaller sit-in with minimal storage. I already have multiple dry storage bags, sleeping bags and a lightweight...
I've been on the forums grabbing info for a while, but haven't posted much (if at all). I recently got into Jeeping and have a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited. Love mountain biking and kayaking. Currently living in flat Florida, but make it back out to my favorite stomping grounds of AZ and UT once in a...
Wow...great writeup and BEAUTIFUL pictures...and sorry to hear about the heart issues. Always good to have a buddy with you on future trips, just in case. You always want to live to experience the beauty you saw another day!
