My friend John the grouse whisperer. As we started unloading bikes at a trailhead yesterday, this hen approached us fearlessly, feigning a broken wing at times. Young nearby, I guess.
It's that time of year, I know it's spring when the vultures return to our neighborhood. Walked out of the house and they were in our tree doing their vulture thing.
These Birds nest on the cliffs of steep craters like Halemaʻumaʻu Crater within Kilauea or some of the pit craters throughout the park.
They fly so fast and itʻs really hard to get a decent shot of them.
Saw this guy on our hike on Sunday. This was the best shot Jackie could get from where we were standing on the trail. He scooted off into the woods after staring at us for a couple minutes. (it’s a fisher)
After sunset the other night, my older sister saw this angry mother scurry off the trail. I turned over the rock and took a couple pics before she ran off.
Since the apricots on the neighbor's tree are ripe, we have a new resident. I can see him sitting in the shade at my neighbor's out my window right now.
We used to have more deer before development... well and a cull by the city.
