Hey, Planning on this trip at the end of August. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Are there any benefits to a north - south route or vice versa? Any recommendations for shuttle service? Planning on 6 days \ 5 nights. I think that will leave time to do some off trail exploring without packs. (we're a bunch of 60-somethings so we only move so fast as a group). Considering doing Mount Cramer or Payette Peak from a Hidden Lake basecamp. Thanks in advance.

I'm doing that route this Thu 8/12 – Sun 8/14, south to north: Click here to view on CalTopo. Red = day 1, orange = day 2 = blue = day 3, yellow = alternates and bail-out routes.

My reasoning for direction is:
  1. Seems like it's slightly less elevation gain overall in that direction.
  2. It divides up the elevation gain a little more evenly between days, so day two is 4,394' going north, while it would be 6,398' going south (oof)
I'll let you know how it goes!

North to south. Want some decent off trail? I did close to yours years ago ... Iron crk th to goat lake over offtral to baron lks couple more off trail sections out alturas lk th. Can send you the gps track if you want it......

Out of curiosity, why north to south?

And please do send the gps track! I'm willing to adjust my route.

Sent you PM with track...

Steeper climbs are from the south on my track....

There is a shuttle to drop your car at the end. Have to ask/call redfish lodge on redfish lake
