Newbie - hoping for some advice on one night backpack in utah

Hi, I'm going to be on holiday in Utah / Arizona next September and we would like to do a hike in a desert area with an overnight camp - any advice would be great. I've done day hikes in Needles, Zion and Bryce before but not many and that was some years ago (I'm from the UK). I'm aware we'd need to carry water probably and get permits. I don't mind if it's a national park or wilderness area (?is that the right term) we were hoping for somewhere quiet. We wouldn't be up for any technical canyoning although we're both reasonably strong walkers (although not used to the heat). Any ideas would be much appreciated, as I am over whelmed by the number of different places I've read about, and if it works out I promise to right up a trip report to share with others. Welcome to BCP. The Needles district of Canyonlands is a good place for beginner backpacking with reservable campsites. You do have to carry your water for the most part but there are a lot of route options and it is great for a short overnighter. LaVerkin Creek in the Kolob Canyons section of Zion is another good area with designated, reservable campsites. You wouldn't have to carry as much water there as you can usually filter LaVerkin Creek.

No one else but @Nick has chimed in yet so I will give my thoughts. Like Nick said, the Needles District specifically Upper Salt Creek would be a good place to start looking at options. There are many trip reports on it.
