Help me plan my trip (while I'm on it!)

I'm just beginning a week-long trip in southern Utah that I have NO itinerary for (always wanted to try this - just wake up each morning and go wherever sounds good!). Anyway, I thought it would be helpful (not to mention more fun) to get suggestions as I go! Can't hurt, right?

This morning I'm in St. George, running a couple errands, but then I was thinking of taking the route south of Zion (bypass the weekend madness) through Kanab, then up through either Johnson Canyon or Cottonwood and finding somewhere to hike this afternoon and setting up camp.

Thoughts or other suggestions for today?

Thanks guys!

It's raining in SLC, is it rainy down there? If so, avoid the Johnson Canyon and Cottonwood Canyon roads like the plague!

If Cottonwood is passable, then stop and check out the Cottonwood Narrows, Grosvenor Arch and maybe Kodachrome. Yellow Rock could be cool too. And a side trip onto the Skutumpah road to check out Willis Creek and Bull Valley Gorge is a must.

Contact for the Escalante Insurgency office if you want to call and check road conditions:

Yeah, I think hiking and camping near yellow rock is my default choice at the moment... Will definitely check road conditions on the way through Kanab. Is Coral Pink worth a stop??

Weather and forecast are both gorgeous! Meteor shower Tuesday night, too!

Coral Pink never looked that compelling to me, but I haven't been there. A stop at Rimrock Hoodoos along Hwy 89 headed to Cottonwood Road could be cool.
