Utah Fire Restrictions Lifted!!

WooooHoooo!! Yellowstone too!

Can anyone tell me if the UTAH FIRE RESTRICTIONS happen every year or was last year a drier year than normal. I've never hiked in Utah but I will be in mid August and I would really like to be able to build a small camp fire while in the high Uintas.

The restrictions don't happen every year, but they do happen in the dry years. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a dry year. I guess the Uintas got more snow than the Wasatch, but the spring is shaping up to be pretty warm (90 tomorrow?!).

Even if there aren't full restrictions, be sure to check out a trail map of where you're planning to go. Almost all of the basins in the Uintas do have full-time fire restrictions. The map will tell you which basins have the restrictions.

Exactly what he said. My bet is that we will definitely see restrictions this year. The basins with full-time fire restrictions aren't for the entire basin though. They're typically just banned within 1/4 from lakes. That's not an issue of fire danger but rather a lack of wood which is a very legitimate concern. It just doesn't have time to replenish up there with the short growing season.

Thanks for the info Aldaron and Nick. As I have mentioned in some other threads, I will solo the Highline trail in mid August and have started to ask some quetions about a few things. Thanks again
