Update on my canoe

In the To do in 2014 thread, one of the things on my list was begin work on building my own cedar strip canoe. I thought I'd post a quick update on the progress as some of you might be interested in the process and building your own canoe.


Pile of plywood ready to begin!


Sheet ripped in half, then pattern traced onto it with graph paper


The forms cut out and ready to sand. Notice the double thick plywood so I only have to cut once but have 2 forms.


The finished forms, sanded and ready to go.

I have the forms cutout, and the strongback built. I've completed what I intended to do on it this year. But since I'm ahead of schedule, I might start working on laminating the stems for the bow and stern.

There's several places that have plans.
I found mine at Northwest Canoe
But Canoecraft by Ted Moores is pretty much the bible for canoe builders, and it has some plans too, but they need to be pulled off of tables in the book.

I certainly hope mine doesn't take that long! I'm planning in being done before 2017 at the latest.
I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of how his turned out.
