The lake is surrounded by forest, meadows and a great backdrop of Druid Peak and the towering cliffs and mountain range associated with it to the west. The lake supports a great cutthroat trout population and a small otter family. It is a favorite spot for anglers looking to hook one of Yellowstone’s most famous fish.
In the spring, you can see cutthroat trout spawning in the stream feeding Trout Lake. If you’re lucky enough to see the spawning trout please be quiet and observe the fish from a distance, getting to close can stress the fish.
