Trouble uploading photos

Any idea why I'm getting this error message when trying to upload photos? I didn't have any issues inserting the attached screen grab. File size of the pictures are about 10mb each.

Your images are too large. The uploader can't handle anything bigger than 16 megapixel (4k x 4k resolution). It's even better if you resize them down even smaller though as if you were emailing them or similar.
