The Neon Keeper

The famous keeper pothole in Neon Canyon has quite the reputation. That's why this trip report on ratagonia 's blog is particularly cool. It shows the keeper in low water but apparently enough sand and material inside the pothole to make it A-Okay. Good stuff...

with low water conditions like that i bet neon's seeing a fair bit of traffic this year.

From what I understand, the low water in Neon usually makes it much more difficult than when it's full. I've heard about this keeper in particular being impossible to get out of because there isn't usually so much sand in it. Instead, you'd be swimming several feet under that ledge trying to figure out how to climb out of it. A couple years back some very experienced guys had to actually ascend the canyon from this point because they couldn't get past it.
