Has anyone used the Starr Springs campground (accessed off of UT 276) below Mt Hillers in the Henry Mts? Just wondering if it is too out of the way to use as a base for day hiking Maidenwater and Trachyte Canyons. Maybe some North Wash stuff too. It appears the cg has some trees and possibly a bit of wind protection over a wide open sandy camp down along 276. I don't mind driving an hour or more for day hikes if the camp is cozy and not too exposed. We'd be camped for 3 or more nights and do day trips out of this location.

In the fall there were big floods that washed a lot of the roads into ditches. It looked like it had happened several times and repair didn't seem imminent with the budget being what it is with priority on law enforcement

Didn't know there were any road problems. I had a conversation with the Hanksville BLM folks this AM, and they said they were doing a bit of construction at this campground. She said they were just about done with new work there. So I'm assuming..... they must have roads repaired, for them to bother doing a new restroom etc up there. I'll have to ask that question before we leave in a few weeks. Thanks!

It's a nice (small) campground. Sites are tucked away under a grove of cottonwoods and there are tables, pit toilets and running water. It is (or used to be) a decent road down to the highway so it wouldn't take too long to get to the canyons. The nearby fins on the south side of Mt. Hillers are fun to explore as well.

Thanks Jammer, I can deal with that camping spot for a few nights. Looks well protected. Leaving Sunday am for Fruita CO and then on to HRV rd for a week. Just had a foot of new snow here (Stbt Spgs) and it's still snowing. Soooooo ready for sand and slickrock and skinny canyons. Soon come!

We camped there 10 days ago and they are just completing some construction work at the campground including leveling, adding gravel and some built up tent pads - probably to remedy the issues the previous posted mentioned. It is very nice with shade. and is only a few miles off 276 on a road in good condition that they have also been working on.

Thanks @Skiwi, heading SW tomorrow morning. Plan on being camped over there in a couple of weeks. Hoping they have their water source running. Will try and call BLM just before we head that way. Appreciate your input.
