A friend of mine and ultrarunner (Karl Meltzer) is the creator and race director of the Speedgoat 50k trail race at Snowbird Ski Resort. This is 30 miles of hard running with 12k elevation gain and 12k elevation loss. My wife did this race 2 years ago so I know first hand how nutty it is. The winner this year finished in 5 hours 14 minutes. Karl had the top mountain ultrarunners in the world and it was very impressive to see. I've seen the race grow in the past 5 years into something globally known and it was very well run this year.

Each year I basically just go wherever I want to take photos I think will represent the race well. This means I end up scrambling around intercepting the leaders at cool spots on the mountain. Wildflowers in Mineral Basin, Baldy views and the Cirque were the best locations IMO.

A few select photos below.

I dig the time-lapse. Have any pictures of the setup you used for panning?

Yep, ordning egg timer, gopro mount, GoPro HD2 sitting on a flat rock. Worked out great. By the way, the dude that won this race is the same that just beat the speed record for ascending/descending The Grand Teton.
I was going to ask how quick, but then decided I have fingers and google...
Since I looked it up I thought I'd share:
Jornet summited the Grand via Lupine Meadows conquering the 7,482 feet and 12.5 miles of up and down in just two hours and fifty-four minutes, a twelve minute improvement.
