Typically from April-November I tend to stay away from Zion unless I specifically decide to hike something off the average tourist radar. Shelf Canyon is one of these hikes. I have hiked it three times during the prime tourist months and have yet to see anyone hiking it. Today we didnt even see footprints of other hikers anywhere in the canyon. Shelf Canyon is a short hike that has some scrambling, bouldering, and most importantly a pretty cool slot.

After hearing that my two hiking partners for the day had never been to the Canyon Overlook we decided since we still had some time and were already parked near the Canyon Overlook Trailhead we would hike out to the overlook. It was the typical zoo of people but it is a Zion classic.
