Quagga mussels at Powell

This is in the farthest reaches of escalate side canyons. First time I’ve ever seen them up there. I was in the area last spring when water was still coming up so wouldn’t have seen them but it’s bonkers that they could take over like that in less than two years. Damn.

edit: I realize they aren't new to the lake quite that recently (last 5 or 6 years maybe in the southern end?), but it's still crazy fast infestation of that large of an area

Do they have a natural predator? Something that likes to eat them?

The issue that introducing a predator of these things is that the predator, will become the new invasive species. Lots of complicated management problems, right now prevention seems to be the status quo but science might find some solution.

Kind of like how introducing the tamarisk beetle resulted in impacts to the endangered southwestern willow flycatcher and other birds.
