Pencil Point - November 2, 2024

I picked up a used Canon EOS 1Ds mark II for a steal off of eBay. It showed up yesterday afternoon and I wanted to take it out today to make sure everything was working. I had originally planned earlier in the week to hike up Black Mountain, but as the weekend approached the forecast got uglier and when I got up this morning the chance of rain had increased to 50% starting supposedly this afternoon. I didn't want to get the camera wet, so I changed my hiking plans and did a quick hike up Pencil Point instead so that i could beat the rain.

I'm including some fall colors in this report instead of putting them in the Autumn Colors 2024 post. I was surprised that there still was some tucked away maples that had some color to them along the north slopes.

Those bikini shots are killing me, but not as much as carrying that camera would.

I've thought about getting one of those older flagship Canons, but I'm going to wait for one that you can give verbal instructions, like "Zoom in on that crazy guy wearing the kilt on Pencil Peak." One where you don't have to look through the viewfinder, though I'm not sure why I'd want a picture in the first place.

The camera and the lens weigh somewhere between nine and ten pounds. If it were a longer hike, I'm sure my left shoulder would get tired of sore.

You might be waiting awhile for one with verbal directions. I have ordered an eyepiece for the viewfinder since the used 1Ds Mark II didn't come with one. Maybe that's why it was a steal?

Nine inches is pretty good. Will that melt off, or will it stay until spring?

Didn't you see the snow on Grandeur in my pictures? The storm that came in late Saturday afternoon dropped the snow level to about 5400 feet. The Avenues Twin Peaks got some, but most of it has already melted off with maybe a dusting left on the north slopes.

Saw the faint snow, heck we get that much here in July.

Hows abiout the top of the Grand Teton? Or if that won't work, maybe a beach in Hawaii?
