Every Spring we take a family trip down south(Utah) somewhere. My wife usually has the most influence in destination and this year she wanted to go to Mesa Verde. She had never been and it had been about 15yrs since I had been. We decided to stop in Moab on the way down and hike a canyon to visit some petroglyphs/pictographs. We then spent Saturday/Sunday morning at Mesa Verde, and went to Hovenweep Sunday afternoon. On the way home we stopped at Newspaper Rock and again in Moab in Arches NP. Suoer nice weather the whole time! Here are some pictures.

How were the crowds in Mesa Verde at this time of the year? I avoid that park because there's always too many people and much of it is closed off in the winter...

I'm not sure how crowded it usually is but the only places we saw very many people were at Cliff Palace, and Spruce Tree House. We would see one or two people at some of the other pullouts/stops but not more than that. The Wetherill Mesa is not open until after Memorial Day and that is when the park gets a lot more pressure I believe. We were on the first tour of the season to Balcony House which was pretty cool. Weather was perfect also.

Just noticed the thread title says Moan instead of Moab. Dang autocorrect!

Sweet pictures. I have not been to Mesa Verde since I was a kid and want to go back. I was thinking of going this fall but I don't know much about the area. Would like to talk to you to help me plan if you are willing.

I really like Mesa Verde, and thus I enjoyed your pictures a lot.
We went in June a few years ago and there were lot's of crowds. Bad thing when traveling there after Memorial Day.
But we had a nice Ranger who guided our group. He was from our neighborhood and moved West more than 25 years ago. But he still knew about all of our small local stores.
Small world, he he :)
