lightweight critter-proof food sack?

So obviously when I'm camping in bear territory, critters aren't getting into my food, but I also do a bunch of backpacks where bears aren't a problem and when I unfortunately end up using a heavily-used campsite, critters will sometimes make a good attempt to get into my food sack. I always try to hang it a bit, but often in the desert a good hang isn't really possible. Do people have a favorite lightweight solution to this? A mouse/marmot/etc.-proof food bag that's only minimally heavier than a regular stuff sack?

I use a steel mesh "ratsack" in grand canyon and similar places where there are designated or popular sites that the mice have zeroed in on. It's a bit heavier than a cuben food bag, but not as heavy as, say, an ursack. 100% effective in my experience, you won't lose anything to mice or other small critters (eg ringtails) using one of those. You can put a cuben or opsack inside the mesh if you want to make sure there's nothing sticking out for them to grab.
