Idaho Steelhead 3/7/13-3/10/13

Had the chance to chase some Steelhead with some friends earlier this month in Northwestern Idaho. The weather was great for us all weekend long and we managed to land some nice fish. It always amazes me to think that these fish hatch 700 miles from the ocean, travel out to the ocean, live for a few years out there, and then return 700 miles back to where they hatched in order to spawn. It's such a cool feeling holding one of these fish and knowing where it's been. Here's some pics.

WOWOWOWOWOW! Awesome man! I fished the North Umpqua in Oregon once. I had no clue how to catch fish like that but it was a blast to stand in the river and watch them.

Glad to see all the recent Idaho posts. I was feeling a little like the odd man out. I love the southern Utah and Wind River/Wyoming posts but at the same time know that Idaho can hold it's own.

you've triggered a memory dump from my youth. spent some quality time in my youth stealheading the rivers on the west slopes of the WA cascades and the olympics.

so what was working for you up there in No ID... swingers, skaters, wakers, side-float / marabou jig set-up...?

so what was working for you up there in No ID... swingers, skaters, wakers, side-float / marabou jig set-up...?

Anything orange was working. We were nymphing mostly. Crystal Meth, Steelhead Hammers, and egg patterns worked well.
