So I headed to the Sierra Nevada for a last mountain trip of the season. Last time I was in Humphreys Basin smoke from the Rim Fire in Yosemite came our way and smoked us out. We could taste it and even feel it in the air. Less than fun. It is an easy hike up to and over Piute Pass, and I set up camp at one of the many unnamed lakes below Mount Humphreys. It was warm enough for some requisite sun bathing, but as it was bound to happen eventually, it eventually did. Bit by some insect on my nether region. Now that I got that out of the way its smooth sailing from here on out ! So i wandered around the basin a bit, got some sunset shots, and settled in.
Next day started with clouds which gradually built to hail, then rain, then snow. But before that I made the summit of Muriel Peak across the way. Great views and great lighting. I made it back to camp just as hail started and had some dinner, then went for a wander in it before bedding down again. It was a cold and windy night. And morning saw no respite, but clouds were gone and it was sunny. Not that it made the below freezing wind chill any more pleasant. I wandered just a bit more then headed out. Along the way stopping to talk to sexy outdoors woman. She came around a corner mid farmer blow. That's how you do it, no pansy ass hanky to shove snot soaked back into a pocket to have to blow into a wet spot next time. Nope, headed tilted, one nostril plugged, and let er rip. That's how a real woman does it. Anyway, we chatted a bit once she noticed me (post mucous evacuation, she was focused) and I finished my return to the truck. Then it was back to Schatt's Smokehouse in Bishop for a yummy, yummy burger before heading home.
Camera ran out of battery quick, but here are some highlights. Mount Humphreys dominated.
Sunset from the Buttermilks the night before heading up Piute Pass trail.
And various views of Mount Humphreys.
