Hi there fellow backpackers. I'm from Ireland, not a land known for its rugged country but it can still be an adventure. My husband, myself, and our 6 year old daughter are avid adventurers; we hike, climb, camp, cave, run. I have been told many times that my 6 year old cant be physically equipped to go on some of the hikes we do but she is. She can swim, climb a rope without assistance, pull her body weight, and run or walk for long distances. Plus, I would never expose her to a trail where I felt she would struggle, I still worry like a mother. She has autism and is hyper-focused on several things, hiking happens to be one of them. This means, she learns everything she can about something and memorizes all of it. We are happy we have the resources to indulge her. Honestly, I think she might be in better shape than my husband or I. We have, as a family, trekked overnight on many challenging trails and enjoy solitary camping. We also participate in many half marathons and will be attending the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon this November. We are going to one in Dublin as well but its only a 10K.
I joined this forum because we are visiting, again, this year to take on some new challenges. We have been exploring Arches, Zion, and Canyonlands the past two years and are expanding into areas I don't know as well to give her new challenges. I'm looking forward to what insight fellow adventurers can provide.
