Any idea on how to get a permit to camp there other than calling,, 928-448-2121. It's impossible to get an answer by calling.

From Grand Canyoneering by Todd Martin

"All reservations must bee made via telephone. Call one of the numbers below to reserve.... Be sure to to have the following information ready: desired dates, number of nights camping, and number of people in your group.....

Camping: 1-928-448-2121 or 2141 or 2174 or 2180.

Office hours are 8am-5pm November-March."

No other way. Call and keep calling. Took several attempts when I went down there & I had to rejig my dates whilst on the phone with the gentleman to find a date when they had availability.

Remember that the Havasupai and most other native tribes have a more laid back way of "working" and don't particularly believe in clocks, schedules, fixed appointments etc. They don't sit at a desk from 9-5 waiting to take calls. When you get down there and register you'll see how it works. The phone is literally out the back beisde the desk, if someone happens to walk past as it's ringing they'll pick it up, otherwise it's generally ignored

Be patient, persistent and keep trying. As with all dealing with native tribes, things will get done when they get done.

Saw this on my FB feed: "For those planning on going to Havasupai this year:
After calling for a total of 17 HOURS....I finally got through today to make my reservation. Reservations opened on Monday Feb. 1st, and literally thousands of people are trying to get through to make a reservation for 2016. I asked about several dates and MAY and JUNE were completely booked, so I will be going July 8-10. They didn't ask for payment up front, but said it would be due when we checked in. Per person for 3 nights is $102 including taxes. There are 4 numbers you can call, but I got through on the one that ends in 2121. If you are thinking about calling or are still in the process of calling - don't give up! Call consistently (possibly for hours on end) and you will get through. If anyone has questions, let me know! Hope this helps. smile emoticon"

Thank you very much for the response. I put in another request at the south rim, in case I never get through.

You applied at the South Rim for a Havasupai permit? Or for a different hike within Grand Canyon NP? The National Park is nothing to do with Havasupai and doesn't administer permits for hikes to the village and the falls.

I believe this info came from @crazydoghiker. There's quite a thread of comments there on FB about how difficult it has been for others to get through too. Apparently you can often get in if you just show up, get on a waiting list, and/or pay double price.

Sadly, this is why I've never been to Havasupai. I'd love to go, but just not willing to go through that. (And $30+ per person, per night... ouch!)

Are permits available year round? IE... seems like Dec/Jan/Feb wouldn't be so in demand.

Separate hike at GC
