Some friends and I are wanting to hike the Grand Canyon from rim to rim. We are wanting to do it all in one day and are talking about going from the South rim to the North rim. Has anyone on here done this, or similar hike? Any tips/info?
Thanks!

All in one day? Isn't it like 20-25 miles and like 8000+ feet of elevation change?

I would never do this in one day.
Seriously, I would plan at least one night down there.
And what time you're talking about? That's an important factor to consider beside the elevation gain/loss.
I only went to Plateau Point and back in about 5 hours a couple of years ago, but on that day it wasn't very hot and doable in that short time.

Around May 18th. A guy I work with does it twice a year (spring and fall). Last year he did rim to rim to rim, going from North to South, staying the night in the hotel and then back to the North the next day. His brother did it (rim to rim to rim) without sleeping. He said never again! LOL!
Anyway, I wanted to find out what others thought.

Ya, it's about 25 miles.

rim to rim in a day is fine, if you are in good shape. you do have to worry about car shuttles and what not though. if you don't spend the night, no worries on a permit either. backcountry permits in the corridor are a pain in the ass. the elevation gain is not 8k, it's closer to 5k, 4 down, 5 up if you go south to north.

some years the north rim isn't open before memorial day. doubt that will be an issue with this winter we're having, but it could happen.

lots of really good stuff to see in the GC though. highly recommend getting out of the corridor, especially if you don't like crowds, paved trails, and donkey crap all over the trail. :)
