Not much of a trip report here but for the last few years my kids and I have hiked to the top of Ensign Peak on Thanksgiving Day. Now calling it a peak might be a stretch; it's more like a bump. But once on top, you have a great view to the south of the Salt Lake Valley, to the east of the Wasatch Front, to the west the Oquirrh Mountains, the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island.

The hike itself is really easy. It only takes about fifteen minutes to get to the top; twenty if you're like me and take pictures along the way.

Once on top we ate lunch while taking in the view, then we headed back down to the car.

Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving!

A fun little hike with a fine view. After living in the avenues for a year and never doing it, I finally did this last year when I was hiking for a living and I quite enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

That is a fun little hike. I often trail run/hike along the Bonneville shoreline trail just a bit east of there. Great area so close to the city.

Very nice vantage point from up there Hugh. Looks like a perfect place to get out for a bit with the family on a holiday.

... when I was hiking for a living...

Wha what!?!? professional hiker? how does one line up that gig? please do share!

I did this hike about 30 years ago and never went back to it until 2011 with my kids on Thanksgiving Day. It is a fun little hike, especially when there is no pollution in the valley and you can see for many miles.

We actually had a trail runner pass us on the way up. It wasn't you was it?

We had good weather here and it was a great day to be out and about. At some point old man winter is going to rear his cold head!
