- I need help. On October 17th and 18th I am assisting with an effort to relocate a log barrier guarding the Mexican Mountain Wilderness Study Area in the San Rafael Swell. This barrier has been bypassed for a decade by motorized vehicles illegally bypassing it into the Wilderness. The BLM has been reticent about enforcing the boundary so now my partners, the Wasatch Mountain Club and the Sierra Club with the BLM’s assistance, are organizing a meet-up to tear down the barrier and move it to a location more likely to dissuade people from ignoring it. This is a chance to see some beautiful country and to help conserve a landscape that all can agree is stunningly beautiful along with the plants and animals within. Just ask or call or E or PM me if you are interested and have the time please.

What's the plan to improve the barrier? Is it just getting moved up or down the road to where the terrain will help fortify? I might be able to come help, although I'm also a little hobbled still.

We will be dismantling the barrier, replacing degraded components, and rebuilding it about 75 yards to the east at a pinch point in some trees and terrain features where it can't be bypassed. This strategy worked well for closing another incursion point elsewhere in the WSA. Details and maps will be forthcoming to all the volunteers. Any and all help will be appreciated and demonstrates to the BLM that our commitment and support from the community is substantial. Attend one day, two days, help with heavy lifting, shuttling people on the 4WD road or just moral support - all will be appreciated and help the cause.

Well count me in, amigo.
Thanks much and thanks all to future volunteers. I will start an email conversation with all those who reach out to me and provide you with details.

Thanks all who volunteered! We have as many volunteers as the BLM can handle at this point. I will contact those who reached out to me to volunteer with further details.

I wanna help. The SRS was my backyard growing up. Love the recreational opportunities it provides, but I want some of it free of OHV travel as well.

.... old post. Oops lol. I am a little late!

Hi guys,

The work session last autumn was canceled due to storms. We will be holding it this spring in probably April. I will put out a call to arms when we get closer. Welcome all including @regehr and @Blake Merrell and ???

I'm not around this spring but moving back to Utah in July-- will help if this gets delayed again, or another time!
