Hi,

Anyone hiked Buckskin Gulch recently ? I'll be in the area next week and I am interested in knowing how is the current situation with the cesspool ? dry, lots of water ? Last year I hiked it and it was totally dry; hoping for the same this year.

I have no idea, but monsoon season is upon us so I wouldn't bank on it being dry. Just depends on whether it flashes before you go. Watch out for the afternoon thunderstorms. Probably the most unpredictable season to enter Buckskin.

I have a feeling I may have answered your question on tripadvisor Carlos ;) I was there mid-June, although only went about halfway through before turning round (no time/shuttle vehicle for through hike).

What I saw was bone dry, not a drop of water in sight & it looked like it had been that way for a while. I don't think there's been any significant rain in the area since? Although as Nick says, monsoon season is now starting to hit...

I was in the area last week & the Paria was bone dry like Dan said... Of course Monsoon season is about to begin & that can change everything in a flash.

I did the whole thing a few weeks ago and only saw a few puddles near the confluence

I just went through on Saturday the 12th. Wire pass to white house. Very sticky/slippery mud from beginning to the confluence. No pools deeper than the knees. No quicksand. 30 something inches vertical clearance through the rabbit hole. One large pool at the confluence on the Paria side. It was fresh water, so luckily no rank smells. Overall very nice and warm, but the mud slowed me down a lot. Watch out for mice at the campsites near the confluence. They can get in your stuff even when tied up with thin cord. I ended up putting my food/trash bag in my tent with me...

I am planning on doing a dayhike from Wirepass to White House the 2nd week of April. We are 2 novices in our 20s that have done the Narrows Top-Down. How does this compare? What equipment do you recommend for the pools/mud/etc? Also, the rabbit hole is now open? No rope is necessary. Thanks for your help.
